Shop · Podcast · Blog · Instagram · TikTok Brought to you by Above the Fold Newsletter Listen, sometimes I sit down here and have no idea what I'm about to write. Michael Scott said it best, "Sometimes I'll start a sentence and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope I find it along the way." I'll tell you what I do know though - that people get really weird about an eclipse, as if we didn't just see one in the U.S. in 2017. And as if it doesn't literally happen all the time, just not always in our viewing location. Fun fact, in 2017 I was on a plane heading from Nashville to Seattle during the eclipse and we were just about over the Jackson Hole area at totality. I'd say we had the best view without the crowds. To the lady in the neighborhood Facebook group tellings us all the disastrous things that would happen yesterday during the eclipse...how ya feelin' this morning, ma'am? Your Marketing News Roundup This Week: Google is considering putting some AI search features behind a paywall. We know that a few of their products have premium features, like increased cloud storage, or more advanced models of their Gemini AI chatbot, but now they are considering taking advantage of its search dominance by adding certain AI search features to existing premium subscription programs. TikTok News The potential ban is still looming, but TikTok has released info to lawmakers letting them know that the platform has generated over $14B for small businesses, and over 7 million businesses rely on the app. We continue to wait and see if this will help. Running Ads? If you run ads, make sure you're checking out The Advertising Standards Authority's recent judgments as it pertains to unavailable products, false advertising, etc... to sum it up, ethical marketing will prevail. The rest of 'em? Prob going to have some issues. Facebook's Comeback Era Facebook was the most downloaded app in March according to AppFigures. Yep, a combined total between Google Play Store and iOS App Store show that Meta's OG platform had a total of 59M downloads, Instagram had 58M downloads, and TikTok had 46M downloads. Wanna know why? Due to the app going down for a few hours...people hopped to their mobile devices to see if they could log in that way. This also shows that a chunk of FB users are using their desktops. I'll say it so you don't have to...it tracks when you think about all the boomer aged users. So, I don't anticipate seeing these numbers repeat in April. And as always, may your email list forever be larger than your social following. See ya soon, friend! Was this email forwarded to you? Subscribe below so you don't miss next week's roundup!
